Not sure why K netizens are trying gaslight us since just go on on those websites that translate K netizen comments and will you find old articles from 10 years ago having netizens calling idols nugus.

Yeah, I don't think this originated with international fans. Referring to someone as "who?" basically means they're a "nobody", so I feel like it's not being used incorrectly. I can see how iterations like "nuguest" would be funny to them though.
그러게 이게 해외 팬들에서 시작됐다고는 생각되진 않는데. 누군가를 "누구?"라고 부르는 건 기본적으로 한국인들이 "아무도 아니다"라는 뜻으로 쓰는 말이니까 잘못 사용된 건 아닌 것 같은데. "누구스트" 같은 변형이 좀 웃기게 느껴지는거겠지.

I think the difference is 10 years ago, it was used quite literally for "who?" as a descriptor. but now it carries a disdainful, or shaming usage coming from a place of arrogance. There are definitely certain members of certain very large, and very expansive fandoms that use nugu as an insult, and not merely as a descriptor. Which is hilarious given that the I know at least one example of a group who has some "fans" who do it, that were once Nugus themselves.
내 생각에 10년 전에는 누구라는 말이 문자 그대로 "누구야?"라는 의미로 사용됐다는 게 차이점인 것 같아. 하지만 지금은 거만함에서 비롯된 경멸적이거나 수치스러운 의미를 담고 있지. 매우 크고 광범위한 특정 팬덤의 사람들이 '누구'를 단순한 설명이 아닌 모욕으로 사용하는 건 확실해. 재미있는 건 내가 아는 한 그룹의 팬들 중 일부가 이 표현을 즐겨 쓰는데, 걔들이 좋아하는 그룹도 한때는 '누구'였다는거지.

맞아, 사람들이 실제로 영어 단어 "who?"를 모욕으로 사용하긴 하지. 그런데 예전에는 한국어 단어 '누구'를 모욕으로 사용하지 않았어. 단순히 설명으로만 사용했지. 알려지지 않았다는 말을 모욕하는 용도로 쓰진 않았어.

10년 전에 '누구'는 그냥 소규모이거나 덜 알려졌거나 알려지지 않은 회사 출신의 덜 알려진 그룹이라는 의미였어.
now people use it with the additional meaning of "...not worth time or attention""
지금은 사람들이 "걔들한테 시간이나 관심을 들일 가치가 없다"는 의미로 사용하고 있지.
It's not the unknown part of that is the insult now, it is the "why should I bother getting to know them
이제는 알려지지 않았다는 부분이 모욕이 아니라, "왜 내가 그들을 알아야 하지?"라는 의미로 모욕적인 단어가 된거야.
